Cheoyong Mask

Cheoyong masks represent Cheoyong, a legendary figure believed to be the son of the East Sea and who defeated the god of illness. For this reason, Cheoyong masks have been frequently used in Korean rituals to cast away evil spirits and the god of illness, and Cheoyongmu (Dance of Cheoyong) was performed as a ceremony to pray for peace and prosperity of the country in the royal court. Currently, performances using these masks are performed at Cheoyong Culture Festival.

Ornamental Silver Knife

Ulsan's Byeongyeong area has been producing iron and weapons for centuries. As this technology started to be used for making daily supplies such as knives and pipes, this led to the development of metal crafts in the area. Ornamental silver knives now only serve decorative purposes, but until the late Joseon Dynasty, it was a tool for women to protect themselves and keep fidelity and for high-rank officials to prevent poisoning.
